Hello from the other side of moving!! We’ve made it past both closings and are thrilled to have that stress behind us. I’ve started this post so many times in the past 2 weeks, and it always gets left for a ringing doorbell or kids wanting to swim. So here I am sitting in my half completed kitchen enjoying some tunes while the kids watch cartoons upstairs. It’s been quite a week and honestly, blogging has just taken a back seat, but I’ve missed it. Last night Rob said to me, “you just need to get back to writing.” He’s right. So, starting now I’m placing this back on my priority list. I have to say, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten more comfortable with owning my best yes’s. Being ok with saying no to certain things. With all we have been juggling this Summer(a move, a renovation, Rob’s Ironman, Rob’s work and travel, kids home, camps etc) something had to go. SomethingS actually. It’s been refreshing to know that I didn’t beat myself up when I didn’t get a post written or a run in. It’s just life and I’m learning to be ok with that.
With all that said, we are in the fun part. It’s hectic with worker’s here all the time but it’s also fun getting to design some new elements in this home. We plan to stay a while. Here is a glimpse into the crazy…
We’ve only been able to unpack the bedroom’s because the downstairs is being painted and the walls are being scraped, plus the entire kitchen is being remodeled. So, it’s allowed for a LOT of this…
The pool has been such a gift. We’ve had lots of friends over and kids in the pool daily. I love it. We may not be able to unpack or go many places inside, but we are getting plenty of use out of the back yard and it makes a Summer move totally worth it.
We’re hoping to have the renovations done in the next two weeks. This Thursday Rob and I leave for Sonoma for his first full Ironman. I can’t believe it’s already here!! It’s been so fun(and stressful at times, but more on that in another post) watching him power through this training, which in my opinion is a HUGE win with a distance such as an Ironman. He’s healthy and injury free.
It will be so nice to get away and have a little break from my kids(yesterday Lila lost her sh@* in the Chick Fil A parking lot. She strapped out of her seat and proceeded to climb into the front seat and slap me as I pulled up to the window to get their food. Yea, that was humbling. Don’t worry. That is SO NOT OK in this house and she spent the afternoon in her room while the other kids swam among a few other consequences. I didn’t kick her out of the car or scream at the top of my lungs for her to shut up, so that felt like a win. Self control baby. By the way, whoever coined the term “terrible two’s” had clearly never had a 4 year old. Just sayin. It made for a lovely day let me just tell you. Oh, and she was still going when we got home to workers here, and they got a show. Summer is SO fun isn’t it?!?!) as we’ve all spent A LOT of time together the past 8 weeks.
The week after Ironman Rob is taking off work so we can have some fun with the kids as a family. With all the crazy it’s just been mostly stress and hard work this Summer, which I think is good for the kids to see, but it’ll be nice to reconnect as a family. Dust, swimming, boxes and eating out(because we couldn’t walk on our kitchen floors for two days). I guess we’re all just getting fat(well all of us except Mr. Fit Ironman) and calling it a season that will be over before we know it, then we’ll be sad and missing Summer.
On the running front I’m finally getting some miles back under my feet. 5.5 for today which is the longest run I’ve had in months. Yesterday I threw in some burpees for good measure….
We put my treadmill in the garage and I’m surprisingly LOVING it. I’m in my own space and something about being outside with the garage door open makes it feel less torturous. It’s HOT, but it’s not bothering me that much. I do need to buy a giant fan for some airflow because Texas in late July is basically all hot and humid air that makes you feel like you are dying all the time. A slow, hot, sweaty death. I don’t do my hair or wear makeup anymore. I’ve completely thrown in the towel in favor of a messy bun and dry fit clothing. Whatever man, we’re frying down here.
I’m hoping to tackle a half in the Fall or early Winter time frame since I haven’t been training or racing while Rob’s been training for Ironman. So, more on all of that later!!! Happy to be back and hope ya’ll have a fantastic Monday!!
Have you tackled a Summer move and/or a renovation? How did you survive???
