Manda’s Fight: Faith Over Fear

Today I want to take some time to tell ya’ll about an amazing momma named Manda.  Manda and I have never actually met, hopefully soon we will, but I want ya’ll to know her story.  This blog is about so much more than just running for me.  I want it to have purpose and intent.  This is one way we can make that happen.  We can talk about things that are hard and personal but that make a difference in this world.  Manda’s story has touched me and I know it will touch you too.
Manda goes to my church and we have several mutual friends.  I was made aware of her story through Facebook and friends from our church.  My sweet friend Kassie approached me about putting Manda’s story on the blog, and about the opportunity to tell ya’ll about an amazing event that is being held for Manda.  So, I thought it only appropriate for Kassie to tell you a little of Manda’s story…..

Hey guys!  First off, I just want to thank Kelly for allowing me to share this awesome event with you all that will be taking place in December.  I’d like to begin by giving you a little bit of a back story on my sweet friend Manda.
About a year and a half ago my family and I had just found a new church home in McKinney, where we met the Maxwell family.  It was through a Relay for Life fundraiser that she was involved in, and we were invited to, where I truly learned about her life.
Manda first battled and beat cancer at the age of 5.  Two weeks after giving birth to her first child, at the age of 28, the cancer resurfaced, resulting in the tough decision to amputate her leg above the knee and begin the fight once more.
Now, five years after winning her second battle with cancer, Manda will have to face this terrible battle again for the third time.
Manda’s cancer is an extremely rare form of Sarcoma, but her family has determination and hope to beat it again.   Above all, she has faith and an overflowing amount of prayer and encouragement from so many touched by her.  Being a runner myself, being married to a runner, and being surrounded by runners, triathletes, and weekend warriors, we were blessed enough to be approached to help organize an event to help support and benefit Manda and her family.
We desperately wanted to help and knew this was exactly how we could do it.  So, on December 13, 2014 the first Faith over Fear Manda Strong 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run will take place in McKinney, Texas.  This event benefits the Manda Strong organization with proceeds directly supporting the Maxwell family through helping them take care of medical and travel expenses, time away from work, and anything else that may arise.  This is going to be a very exciting event.
There will be bounce houses for the kiddos, music, food, vendors, a silent auction, and whatever other awesomeness we can think of to get you all there!  Whether you run or walk, or do neither, you can still help by donating through the registration page and you even have the option to buy a race t-shirt without even having to run!
Please take the time to like and share the Faith over Fear Manda Strong 5K Facebook page here
and then go to the Race Registration page here to get signed up to RUN!
– Kassie

Thanks Kassie!!  From what I know of Manda, she is a fighter.  But, she needs an army of people around her to pray and fight along side her.  I’m a firm believer in the power of prayer.  I’m also a believer in the power of community.  We don’t all have to know each other.  We can come together for a common cause, a common goal and purpose to raise awareness for things that are happening all around us.  Isn’t that what you would want if it were you?  I know I would.  I would need to know that I had an army of people surrounding me and praying for me.  So, that’s what we’re going to do for Manda.  Ok?

I know many of you reading don’t live near by.  That’s ok.  You can pray.  Please pray for Manda’s body as it begins chemo, for her heart to remain strong, for her husband and kids as they adjust to a new way of living and for peace as they endure the trial.  I know God can make beautiful things out of the hard stuff, so please pray friends.   I appreciate you taking the time to learn about Manda today.  Have a sweet Wednesday….
