Life Lately, Blueberry Cake and a Thursday Workout

Hello from crazy town!! So, I’m up to my ears in boxes because IT’S MOVING WEEK!!!!!!!!


I know people move all the time, God bless them, but we have vowed NEVER to do this again.  Like ever. I feel like George Banks in Father of the Bride 2.  Bury us in our new back yard, because we’re never leaving. It hasn’t been the smoothest process in the world and I think it’s safe to say we’ll be happy when it’s behind us.  It’s all-consuming and I feel as though I’m doing everything else in my life at half the effort. All of my focus has been on getting us packed up and moved.  To make things even better, we woke up Saturday night to the sound of throw up hitting our bedroom floor.  Expletive.  I didn’t even really have time to process what this could mean for our week, if it passed around the entire family that is.  But as soon as I got it cleaned up, got Josh cleaned up and back in bed, it hit me.


The stomach flu the week you move passing through a family of 5(which could easily last more than a week if we all got it) could be a disaster.  So, we prayed.  I’m usually the calm optimistic glass half full one, and my husband is the opposite.  In this case, he was me.  He kept telling me things would be fine and maybe it would stay contained only to Josh.  But the kicker is I had just tossed my rubber cleaning gloves in the trash the day before and packed all my bleach and major cleaners.  So, I was going commando (on my hands that is. Come on guys) cleaning up throw up with limited cleaning supplies.  In my mind, I was doomed.

I’m so thrilled to say(knock on wood), that we’re all healthy and have avoided the contamination in spite of my pessimism.  But can you imagine?  Oh, and I had packed ALL of my large bowls that are occasionally used to catch said throw up several days earlier, no lie, with the thought..”what are the chances someone gets the stomach bug now? I’m packing these suckers.”

Darn it all.

So, all is well and we close TOMORROW and we are tired but SO excited.  Oh and our backs hurt a little, because we’re getting old.  We get to do some remodeling in the new house so if you have any tips, share away!  I’m wanting a french country modern farmhouse look. That’s a thing right?  I’ve decided it is.


It’s safe to say Pinterest has ALL of my attention lately.  This is a lot of pressure! This is like my kitchen for the next 20 something years and there are SO MANY OPTIONS.  You guys. Help!!!

Anyway, a husband training for Ironman, traveling and working crazy hours in the midst of a move and remodel has made life a little crazy.  I’ll get back to blogging regularly and running regularly and I don’t know, cleaning and cooking again.  But for now, we’re settling into the mess and into the crazy, drinking loads of coffee and my Shakeology(best shake I’ve EVER had. Hands down) and enjoying the ride.


Here’s a little workout I posted for my boot camp chicks this week for July 4th.  Sorry no pictures or video’s this week.  Hang with my guys, life will settle soon.


Warm up with 5 min cardio….

3 min AMRAP(as many rounds as possible in 3 minutes)
12 bicep curls
12 weighted squats
12 plank rows with weights(alternating sides so 6 each side)

20 bicycle crunches
20 mountain climbers
12 burpees
repeat 3x

3 min AMRAP
12 lateral raise(may need to lower weights)
12 curtsy lunge right with leg lift
12 curtsy lunge left with leg lift

20 crunches
20 plank punches
20 plank up downs
repeat 3x

3 min AMRAP
12 front raise(may need to go with lighter weights for front raise)
12 lunge jumps(alternating legs)
12 reverse fly

12 burpees
20 superman
20 donkey kicks each leg
repeat 3x

Cool down and stretch!!

I’ve gotten lots of requests for a blueberry cake I posted two years ago because my awesome friend Meredith posts in on FB every time she makes it hehe.  You rock Mer.  So, since it’s been a while I thought I’d post it here.  Plus, it’ll be a while before I have a functioning kitchen and this is tops on my list of things I’ll make in the new space once it’s finished.  This recipe is courtesy of the More From Magnolia Cookbook.

Blueberry Coffee Cake with Vanilla Glaze

Cake Ingredients:
2 Cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2/3 Cup vegetable oil(preferably canola)
1 Cup sugar
2 lg eggs, at room temp
1 Cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 Cups fresh blueberries, lightly coated with flour
Vanilla Glaze:
1 1/4 Cup confectioner’s sugar
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  Grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan.  In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.  Set aside.  In a large bowl, on the medium speed of an electric mixer, beat together oil, sugar, and eggs until light and thick, about 3 minutes.  Add the dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with the milk and vanilla, beating after each addition until smooth.  Fold in the blueberries.  Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 60-70 minutes or until a knife or toothpick come out clean.  Let the cake cool in the pan for 1 hour.  Remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack.
To make the vanilla glaze: In the top of a double broiler, over barely simmering water, combine the sugar, cream, and vanilla.  Stir until the ingredients are well blended, about 2 minutes.  Pour into a glass measuring cup and cover until ready to use.  When the cake is completely cool, drizzle the glaze over cake.  Allow glaze to set for 1 hour before slicing and serving.
Ok. So ya’ll enjoy that cake and the workout, neither of which do I have time for this week(I cleared out the attic and ran a mile today. That so counts).  So enjoy it for me!!!  Have a fantastic weekend and I’ll touch base next week with pictures of the house we are about to rip apart ha!!

  1. i have a pinterest board “for the home” you can look at for ideas. i think we have the same ideas for a kitchen. 🙂 maybe try to incorporate a BARN door somewhere!!! ahhhh my dream!!! xo
